Description
You must have an account with Google to use this resource. This resource works very well either in your classroom, or with distance learning or homeschooled students, with Google Classroom. In this check in, students will be subtracting negative integers from positive integers.
Positive and negative integers can represent opposite directions. For example, a helicopter flying 50 feet above the water (height = 50) is on the opposite side of the water from a submarine at a depth of 50 feet under the water (depth = -50.) So what is the distance from the helicopter to the submarine? It’s 50 – (-50) = 100. Subtracting a negative integer from a positive integer is the same thing as adding two positive integers, e.g. 50 – (-50) is the same as 50 + 50.
This includes three short Google Form quizzes you can use to help your students practice these problems. Two of the problems are word problems and two are not. I recommend it after Grade 6 Rational Numbers Guided Notes 1, which describes integers, including positive and negative integers, and how to subtract negative from positive integers. Rational Numbers Worksheet 1 has similar problems to the Guided Notes, and Rational Numbers Check In 1 and Check In 3 also have practice problems related to the Guided Notes.
You can save 30% by buying Grade 6 Rational Numbers Lesson 1, which includes all these products.
6.NS.C Rational Numbers Check In 2 includes four questions. 6.NS.C Rational Numbers Check In 2a and 6.NS.C Rational Numbers Check In 2b each include two of the four questions. Every question is required and the students’ work is graded on the spot.
Good times to use this:
1) Review from older concepts
2) Warmup for the day
3) Application of knowledge (middle or end of the period)
