This project addresses several of the expectations in the Grade 6 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum. Specifically, students learn about Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and how Canadian NGOs respond to a variety of crises/disasters around the world. Students choose a recent or current crisis, and an NGO responding to it, to examine in more depth. They create a presentation in a format of their choice.
The file includes Teacher Notes (outlining curriculum connections, lesson sequence), hand-outs to support the research project, and a detailed rubric for ease of evaluation.
This project should take 4 or 5 days at least.
