Looking for an engaging and hands-on resource that teaches students about the form and function of structures? This packet is just for you! The Grade 7 – Unit 2: “Form and Function”
unit. This activity packet provides you with lessons, activities, readings and rubrics that can be used to address the following Grade 7 Ontario Science overall expectations:
- Analyze personal, social, economic, and environmental factors that need to be considered designing and building structures and devices;
- Design and construct a variety of structures, and investigate the relationship between the design and function of these structures and the forces that act on them;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between structural forms and the forces that act on and within them.
This packet is also designed to address the following big ideas:
- Structures have a purpose;
- The form of a structure is dependent on its function;
- The interaction between structures and forces is predictable;
What LESSONS are included in this packet?
This packet is thorough in the sense that it includes 22 lessons. Some lessons are designed to set the stage for students in terms of content knowledge and terminology, and other lessons are designed to have students further investigate structures.
