This activity packet is aligned with the Ontario Grade 7 Health curriculum. This packet addresses the following specific expectations:
- Demonstrate an understanding of linkages between mental health problems and problematic substance use, and identify school and community resources;
- Explain how preoccupation with body image or athletic performance can contribute to substance abuse and demonstrate the ability to make informed choices about caring for their bodies;
- Analyze the personal and societal implications of issues related to substance use and addictive behaviours;
This packet builds off the knowledge students already have, while reviewing what students know throughout the various lessons.
What do the lessons look like?
This packet includes 10 lessons, 7 activity worksheets, 3 reflection pages and 4 readings that help to meet the above curriculum expectations. There are also 8 interactive notebook activities that could be used instead of some of the activity worksheets. The lessons are:

What ASSESSMENTS are included?
Great question! There are checklists included in this packet to identify whether students have met the given expectations or met the criteria for some of the activities included in this packet. There is a final assessment where students have to design a poster that illustrates and explains one impact that addictions or substance abuse has on an individual, their life or the people surrounding the individual. There are no tests or quizzes included in this packet.
