The Grade 7, Unit 4: 2D Geometry
is the third math unit in the Grade 7 math series. This packet is aligned with the 2005 Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations for Grade 7: Geometry. With this packet, students construct related lines and practice classifying triangles, and quadrilaterals. Students explore various lines such as parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines. Students also explore the geometric properties of triangles and quadrilaterals and use these properties to sort and classify them. Students also learn about and practice constructing angle bisectors and perpendicular bisectors. Students also explore the relationships between area and perimeter as well as corresponding side lengths.
What overall expectations does this packet address?
The overall expectations that this packet addresses are:
- Construct related lines, and classify triangles, quadrilaterals, and prisms.
- Develop an understanding of similarity, and distinguish similarity and congruence.
What lessons are included in this packet
This packet contains 14 lessons. These lessons either have students practice identifying bisectors, congruent and similar shapes, the geometric properties of quadrilaterals and working with angles and lines.

What activities are included in this packet?
This packet includes 31 activities that help students to practice and meet all of the specific and overall expectations that this unit addresses. Each lesson is accompanied by either one or two activities that have students practice the skills addressed in each lesson. There is also plenty of opportunity for independent practice.
What assessments are included in this packet?
There are some answer keys provided in this packet. These answer keys have the non open-ended questions with answers, but the open responses do not have answers. There are also two assignments included in this packet:
Assignment 5.1: Bisector Posters
Assignment 5.2: Knowledge Posters
There are five rubrics provided in this packet along with success criteria checklists, and eight exit cards.
