This is a language based history unit with additional 10 pages that combines reading, writing, and the arts to create a unit that the kids will enjoy learning about and will remember for many years. The unit is designed to be taught at one time. However it can also be easily split into the different sections that are indicated by the title pages.
It will address media, drama, writing, and reading components as well as EQAO and DRA style questions to prepare students for standardized testing. At the end of the unit is a vocabulary wall designed to help students overcome difficult or new words and concepts. Included is a narrative and persuasive rubric and instructions, (peer, and student evaluation as well). There are instruction sheets for every project you can send home with the students as well. This includes a wax museum project kids will become engaged and interested in.
This really is a complete unit designed so you can teach 1900's history onward during language time and make use of the other time to really focus on other skills or ideas! This is the entire second section of history up to world war 1. This works well with my first unit of history.
This unit is also well-used in combination with the social justice issues of child labour, women's reform and equality. These ideas are mentioned and explored in the unit but make a great jumping off point for students to explore their interests further.
