In the Grade 8: Water Systems
unit, students learn about earth’s water systems. Students develop an understanding of the important role that water systems play in global ecosystems Students will evaluate the role media play in portraying controversial water issues and they are tasked with researching recent technological innovations related to earth’s water systems.
This activity packet provides you with lessons, activities, readings and rubrics that can be used to address the following Grade 8 Science overall expectations:
- Assess the impact of human activities and technologies on the sustainability of water resources.
- Investigate factors that affect local water quality.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of the earth’s water. systems and the influence of water systems on a specific region.
This packet also addresses the following big ideas:
- Water is crucial to life on Earth.
- Water systems influence climate and weather patterns.
- Water is an important resource that needs to be managed sustainably.
What lessons are included in this packet?
This packet is thorough in the sense that it includes 20 in-depth lessons that help to cover the specific and overall expectations as well as the big ideas. Some lessons are designed to set the stage for students in terms of content knowledge and terminology, and other lessons are designed to have students further investigate water systems.
