The Word Tree is a home literacy program where students will learn basic sight words. In each of the 20 branches you will find 15 sight words. These are words which students between Kindergarten and Grade 3 experience most often in their day-to-day reading. The vast majority of sight words are not readily “sounded out” therefore require memorization (which can be very frustrating for your child.) I encourage you to proceed through this program at a pace that is comfortable for your child. I expect each Branch will take between 1 to 3 weeks to master. This is not meant to be a quick study. The goal is for the children to practice not only being able to read these words, but to understand what they mean and how to use them in a sentence. It would also be beneficial for them to be able to spell these words. They will only be tested to see if they can read the words. Upon successful completion of the test, the child will move to the next level.
