Do you want to add some excitement to grading text responses? After reading a passage and writing a short and/or extended response my students usually meet in read-around groups. Then they read each other’s passages and score them with kid-friendly rubrics. Well, they are burnt out from this. That is why I created this. This is a game, as well as, scoring responses lesson. They will get points for parts of their writing. These areas include; a claim, text evidence, prompts, and elaborations. They get a certain amount of marshmallows based on their score. They can decide to eat, toss in the buckets, or try the BIGGIE challenge and try to knock the car off the desk. Writing can be FUN!
