This graded reader introduces one new word at a time. Repeated words and phrases give extra practice to consolidate the student’s understanding of the new word. Originally designed for EFL students, this text is also ideal for struggling and emergent readers.
The following is a list of sentences children will practice reading:
Tom has a ball.
Tom has a bat.
Tom has a ball and a bat.
Tom has a hat.
Tom has a hat and a ball and a bat.
Tom has a cat.
The cat has a hat.
The cat likes the hat.
Tom has a dog.
Tom has a dog and a cat.
The cat likes the dog.
The dog likes the cat.
The dog is big.
The cat is not big.
The cat is on the mat.
The cat is on the mat. The dog is not.
Each new word is introduced with pictures. Words which are difficult to represent in pictures (a, and, the, is) include the Spanish translation. Almost all words are repeated a minimum of 3 times for additional practice and to help consolidate learning.
