The Canadian Coin Representation Strips
is a math tool that can be used for students from Grades 1 - 4 to help them practice representing and identifying money amounts to various given benchmarks.
Grade 1: to 18 cents
Grade 2: to $1.00
Grade 3: to $10.00
Grade 4: to $100.00
Students work with Canadian coins in each of the representation strips, and there is also a set of editable strips that allow you to enter in your own money amount. The fonts used in the strips were: KG Red Hands and Hello Millionaire. The inclusion of the editable file allows you to add additional practice strips to the math centre, and allow you to target certain benchmarks of money amounts for students to represent.
How to Assemble the Strips:
There are three strips per page. Each strip contains between 10 - 30 coins. Print and laminate the pages. Cut out the strips. Have students use dry-erase markers to circle the coins they are using to represent a given amount. You can give students the recording sheets to record how they have represented each given money amount.
