To start with: WHY GIFTED (or CHALLENGING) TOPICS (or SKILLS as I call them)? Because I have found, in teaching secondary students who never learned concepts at lower grades, that when the more serious among them encounter a very challenging problem, they are intrigued and curious and, in some cases, want desperately to know how to go about solving the problem. Nevertheless, these topics are, typically, not part of regular math curricula but, rather, constitute an addendum to various courses or, alternately, actual units in special GIFTED classes.
From a database of MORE THAN 42,700 problems and over 1250 skills, a keyword of CHALLENGING was used to locate dozens of skills (121 at this writing) that represent over 3000 problems from grade 2 to HS. 121 problems (one from each skill) have been chosen to illustrate the richness of the possibilities. They are printed in Grade-Domain-Cluster-Standard-skill-difficulty level order and range from the elementary to challenging. Each is coded with its difficulty level (1= most elementary; 4= most difficult).
Diagrams and/or instructions are oftentimes included when needed by problems. Problems can have extensive answer (and step-by-step solution) sheets (at the end) provided.
Many offerings of more GIFTED/CHALLENGING problems are included on this website by grade or by Common Core domain.
[The problems in All WORKSHEETS and PREVIEWS are printed in difficulty (1 [easy], 2 [not so easy], 3 [proficiency] up to 4 [mastery]) order within a skill. The actual difficulty level appears slightly to the left of the DK box of each problem in a very small font. Also, instructional references appear on worksheets but are optional on quizzes.]
COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, CRITICISMS and REQUESTS are REALLY, REALLY welcome.
