To start with: WHY CHALLENGING (level 4) PROBLEMS? Because I have found, in teaching secondary students who never learned concepts at lower grades, that when the more serious among them encounter a very challenging problem, they are intrigued and curious and, in some cases, want desperately to know how to go about solving the problem. In my teachable units the problems are printed in difficulty order so the level 4 problems are, therefore, last within each topic or skill. As I said, several students like to go straight to the end of the topic just to test themselves.
From a database of MORE THAN 42,700 problems and over 1250 skills, 70 problems are included here that represent over 1700 level 4 problems from grade 3 to HS. They are printed in Grade-Domain-Cluster-Standard-skill-difficulty level order and range from the elementary to challenging. Each is coded with its difficulty level (1= most elementary; 4= most difficult). Diagrams and/or instructions are oftentimes included when needed by problems. Problems can have extensive answer (and step-by-step solution) sheets (at the end) provided.
Many offerings of more CHALLENGING (level 4) problems are are included on this website by grade or by Common Core domain.
[The problems in All WORKSHEETS and PREVIEWS are printed in difficulty (1 [easy], 2 [not so easy], 3 [proficiency] up to 4 [mastery]) order within a skill. The actual difficulty level appears slightly to the left of the DK box of each problem in a very small font. Also, instructional references appear on worksheets but are optional on quizzes.]
