To start with: WHY CONSTRUCTION PROBLEMS? Because I have found, in teaching secondary students who never learned concepts at lower grades, that when they attempt to construct a geometric figure or an equation or convert an expression into English or to artfully use various concepts that THEY BENEFIT from successfully accomplishing the objective and I benefit from knowing who still does not understand what we are covering.
From a database of MORE THAN 42,700 problems and over 1250 skills, a keyword of CONSTRUCT was used to locate dozens of skills that represent over 3500 problems from grade 3 to HS. 119 problems have been chosen to illustrate the richness of the possibilities. They are printed in Grade-Domain-Cluster-Standard-skill-difficulty level order and range from the elementary to challenging. Each is coded with its difficulty level (1= most elementary; 4= most difficult). Diagrams and/or instructions are oftentimes included when needed by problems. Problems can have extensive answer (and step-by-step solution) sheets (at the end) provided.
Unit worksheets can be constructed, with cover sheets, for printing en masse for a given school and to be a source (primary or secondary) for year-long courses. Alternatively, advanced worksheets may be constructed for a given grade, domain or standard. Many of these will be added to this website as time goes on.
[The problems in All WORKSHEETS and PREVIEWS are printed in difficulty (1 [easy], 2 [not so easy], 3 [proficiency] up to 4 [mastery]) order within a skill. The actual difficulty level appears slightly to the left of the DK box of each problem in a very small font. Also, instructional references appear on worksheets but are optional on quizzes.]
An extensive database is also offered so that you can construct your own courses and enjoy the benefits of a full database that has automated grading, statistical tracking, etc. Of all the options that you have for teaching math, this is the MOST FLEXIBLE and CHEAPEST!
COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, CRITICISMS and REQUESTS are REALLY, REALLY welcome.
