Literature circles are a great way to get students talking about books. This packet is all-inclusive and provides students with 8 roles to choose from and it includes a set-up guide along with tools and rubrics you will need to begin literature circles in your class.
What roles are included in this packet?
The roles students are asked to take on, or choose from are:
* Discussion director
* Literary luminary
* Word wizard
* Time keeper
* Fact finder
What role sheets are included?
In this packet you will find three separate sets of role response sheets students can work with. These role response sheets are:
Full Page Role Sheets: These sheets are the traditional worksheets where you can staple them together and make a booklet with them, or you can have students obtain their role sheets every time the literature circle meets.
File Tab: These sheets make up a file tab booklet. You simply print the pages, along with the title page, and cut along the black solid lines. The various roles are associated with a tab and students can use the tab to turn to the role they are taking on for the literature circle.
Interactive Activity Role Sheets: These sheets have students make an interactive notebook with the role sheets for the literature circle meeting. Each week they pick up their role sheet and make a page spread in their interactive notebook. They write about their role use the interactive template.
What rubrics and assessments are included?
In this packet you will find several rubrics and checklists. These checklists are to be used by students for both a self-assessment and a peer-assessment. You will find:
- Peer discussion director rubric / checklist
- Self discussion director rubric / checklist
- Peer group rubric / checklist
- Self completion and participation rubric / checklist
A rubric is also included for the commencement of the literature circle that is to be used by the teacher.
