Global Community Unit:
This is an interactive and fully engaging unit to support the Ontario curriculum. Bogged down by how you are going to present the new Social Studies Curriculum? Canadian Communities past and present expectations seem overwhelming? No time to teach Social Studies with all the other expectations? Looking to split your social studies into two terms to get two different marks? No problem!
Topics covered include:
- Different world Organizations like UNICEF and NATO
- reactions of organizations to natural disasters
- current natural disasters like Hurricane Irma and Maria
- H1N1 virus
- mapping exercises for disease
- reasons for pandemics spreading
- surviving pandemics
- explanation writing
- interpretive dance and drama activity
- child labour issues
- TED talk research activity for other world issues.
The interpretive dance activity is a fun and engaging way to also cover dance and drama expectations if you are not as fluent in dance or drama. Everything is laid out and you will love the results your kids create!
By no means are all the pages in the preview the entire bundle. Please understand there is so much more that you receive!
Grade 5 Government:
This is a complete Canadian government which fully addresses the NEW and revised curriculum to focus on national issues and environmental issues within the government. While this unit is complete in that it covers all of the curriculum it isn't complete to my standards. If you purchase now at this price you will get the unit before it is completed at it's lower price. ** This unit is under revision ** I will be adding additional government knowledge pages and activities in the new year.
The unit makes use of many different inquiry activities to help students learn about:
- the levels of government
- the responsibilities and powers of each level
- minor and major issues the government takes care of
- the different types of government
Included are several rubrics, checklists and self-evaluations for every larger activity students are asked to complete. This makes it very easy to get a mark for the unit and use those marks not only in Social Studies, but also media, reading and writing.
This is an easy unit to teach with step-by-step instructions for activities. Easy to leave for a supply teacher and engaging for kids. Government doesn't have to be boring! The culminating task is a Dragon's den style activity complete with rubrics, research pages, partner logs, bibliography sheet and parent letter.
Also included are fully coloured vocabulary cards that can be put up on a bulletin board or used with the included page of several games to enjoy with students.
