Looking for a way to make 2D measurement engaging for students? Look no further than the {Grades 7, 8} Designing a Museum Rich Math Task. With this activity, students are asked to design a single-level museum that incorporates a trapezoid. Students are asked to calculate the area and perimeter of each of the rooms, and they extend their thinking by having a budget they must stay within.

How does this problem extend student thinking?
Students are asked to find materials that they could actually use to build the single-level museum, and students are introduced to microlevel and macrolevel considerations for creating a building. Macrolevel considerations are ones that are highly important such as insulation, and a roof. Microlevel considerations, on the other hand, are ones that are not as important. Students must think about the following components: outside of building design and materials, wall materials, flooring materials, roof materials and so on.

What materials are included in this packet?
This packet includes an assignment instruction sheet, a blueprint sheet as well as a rubric. Students are asked to formulate questions and considerations and write these questions and considerations using the given sheet. There are NO answer keys as the variety of student responses is great.
