This high school set of writing rubrics includes two rubric sets, one for each grade band, 9-10 and 11-12. Within each grade level set is a teacher friendly rubric aligned to the Common Core Standards as well as a student friendly checklist which can be used when giving the writing assignment as well as formative check throughout the process.
Dr. Dea's teacher rubric is a single framework for evaluating argumentative writing, informative/explanatory writing, and narrative writing. The student checklists, however, are broken down by each of the three writing types.
The criteria measured by the rubric delineates Common Core descriptors among five criteria categories: Reading Comprehension, Writing Development, Writing Organization, Clarity of Language, and Language Conventions. In addition to being aligned to Common Core Standards, the rubrics are also aligned to PARCC's most recent scale-scoring updates (Summer, 2015).
Additionally, Dr. Dea's rubric embeds Common Core grade-level language standards specifying grammar and conventions expectations.
