Students unfamiliar with the college application process, or even what college is, will greatly benefit from this mini-project. I used it with my students, and it set them up to apply for college enthusiastically and accurately when the time came.
This assignment helps students work through some of the questions they should be considering when looking at different colleges, and helps them get-to-know several colleges they might already be interested in.
Students are assigned a college/university to research. Using the questions attached, they (1) write a report on their assigned college and (2) share their findings with the class. This is a fun way to quickly get to know many different colleges—without having to visit them in person! It can be modified for ELL or ESL students, and can be used in any class (including homeroom or advisory).
