These activities are ready to copy and go without need for your sub to read lengthy directions. Your sub needs access to a copy machine (smartboard or activeboard). Your kids need pencils, crayons, scissors, and readiness to have fun learning!
The file includes:
Morning and afternoon large group “messages” for students to complete and for the sub teacher to use as “get acquainted” and “end of day wrap up” meetings. Each message should take from 30 to 45 minutes of class time.
Reader Response papers for students to complete after reading (independently, small group, or whole class). With sub teacher at smartboard or overhead projector as a guide, students will record (by words or pictures) what they learned about plot, characters, setting, and new words They also have a place to rate the reading ("WOW" "GOOD" "OKAY" "ICK") These reader response papers provide the opportunity for small group or large group sharing upon completion.
In writing, math and science, students will focus on GR words. In math, they will solve addition problems (through 10 or less) as they color in the bear (saying “Grrrrr”) picture. Students will practice subtraction with GReen tree frogs (jumping out of a tree).
In writing they will review 8 different GR-words and do worksheets matching pictures to word, labeling pictures, matching sentences to pictures, cutting out sentence words and forming correct sentences, and handwriting practice.
In science they will read about the GRasshopper, GRoundhog, and GRizzly bear and make their own books about these GR animals.
As always, this full day of plans includes forms for the sub; activities grid showing materials needed for each and common core standard applied; and subplanners skillbuilders page to review grade level skills in math and language arts.
