Here are the exemplars for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade small moments or personal narrative writing workshop. Use the exemplar to show students clear writing expectations and use it to model each craft/skill with your mini-lesson. Some of the details include action words, sound words, feelings, thoughts, dialogue, and more. The exemplars are aligned with the Common Core State Standards and TEKS on skills and elements of narrative writing. Personal narrative elements include characters, setting, problem, and solution. Use the exemplar to start narrative writing workshop with an end in mind. It is especially helpful for ELLs and students with special needs. You could also use them to support your lower level writers, model for your mid-level writers, and challenge your higher level writers in small groups.
