Need a specific system for grading in intermediate? We grade so many papers for so many different purposes: exit slips, homework, participation, work completion, tests, quizzes, group projects, and the list goes on. This purchase includes everything you need for a grading system. The first part is a letter to parents, students, and for yourself to keep as a back up for when there are questions about how and why you are grading papers the way you do. I like to use homework grades and participation grades to encourage students to complete their work and be on task. Yet, I also need to include percentage grades for tests and quizzes so that parents and students are getting an honest picture of ability and understanding. Day to day I use exit slips, partner and group work, observations, and oral answers to help guide my instruction; but they are not for the purpose of giving a grade on a report card. To try to explain all this to parents I have included a letter that outlines the types of grades, grading systems, and purpose they will be used for. In addition, this set includes a reporting form to be sent home weekly so that you are sure parents are seeing grades before the report card. It includes a spot for comments, signatures, and for the student to take ownership of their work and make decisions about improving it or not. The next two pages are for work correction. I call it a "Rainbow Page" or a Rainbow copy because it is for wrong answer analysis and I find it helpful if the kids do their second attempts in another color. The first Rainbow Page is for multiple choice tests and the second is set up in short answer or extended response answer sheets. Last of all, I've included grading sheets that I find helpful for managing paperwork and keeping up with the grades or small groups I need to pull. I think you'll find this set to be everything you need to get started with a specific and manageable grading system in the intermediate grades. It is also typed in Microsoft Word, so it is fully editable. Font used is CKNice from Krista Wallden's store.
