One of the best ways to help ELLs in the classroom is by having a word wall that is heavily referred to. In this exercise, students create their own word wall to build the foundation of their learning. Pick the best ones and put them on the wall or place side by side to come to consensus on definitions. All templates can but cut and paste together on your wall to create your very own classroom graffiti that serves a real purpose in your unit.
Encourage students to incorporate visual representations, color, and mnemonics into their graffiti. Template and rubric are included.
I have frequently used these for warm-ups or exit tickets in both math and science classrooms. Could also be used for stations in any class, characterization in English or vocabulary in foreign language.
