Graham Cracker Fractions
This activity is to reinforce learning about halves, fourths, and wholes using graham crackers and chocolate chips.
You can do this in a whole group setting, small groups, or one-on-one.
Introduce a full graham cracker as one whole. You can use one graham cracker per student and have students break it into four pieces on the perforations, or use a new graham cracker for each demonstration. Students place chocolate chips on the graham crackers and tell the corresponding fractional piece. Let the students practice making various fractions before having them complete the recording sheet.
Once the students are comfortable representing various halves and fourths (including 0/2, 0/4, 2/2, and 4/4), they draw the picture, write the fraction and write the word on the recording sheet to show what they made.
