Grammar - Capitalize It: First Word
This unit focuses on capitalizing the first word in a sentence.
I have made this unit to address the 1st grade level of learning. However, I have made the contents simple enough so that they can also be used with children in kindergarten.
How to use this book
I have included 3 activities in this unit.
1. Worksheets: These worksheets are created on a half-page. Children begin by reading the sentence, locating the error, then re-writing the sentence with the error corrected. They then illustrate the sentence to demonstrate comprehension. These worksheets can be used for morning work, early finisher work, or sent home as homework. You can even staple the pages and make them into a book, if you prefer. Children can work on one sentence at a time, or they can do two or more.
2. Activity Cards: Each of these cards displays a sentence with an error in it. Children locate the error and then write the sentence correctly on the recording sheet provided. Each of the sentence cards is numbered and when children record their answer, they write that number in the circle on the recording sheet. (Beneficial when correcting work!) This activity can be used as a “Write the Room” activity, or kept in your writing/word work center.
3. Cut and Paste Activity: The worksheet is divided into 2 columns: sentences which are correct and sentences which are incorrect. Children cut out the sentence strips from the second page. They read the sentence on the strip and determine whether it is written correctly or incorrectly, then paste it in the corresponding column. Please note that page with the sentence strips needs to be cut in half.
Happy Teaching :)
