This Grammar Guru packet is a one-week, kid-friendly grammar unit. This unit focuses on colons, hyphens, and dashes.
During this grammar week, students will learn what a colon is and how it is used to separate parts of a sentence, items in a list, salutations, and time. Students will also learn how a dash and hyphen are different. They will learn that a dash is used to replace a colon or comma, indicating an interruption in thought. On the other hand, they will learn that a hyphen has two purposes: to join a compound word and to separate the syllables of a word found at the end of a line of text.
