Use your students’ love of drawing, searching and pretending to be the teacher to identify and review the conventions of writing. In this daily activity the students use symbols and color to emphasis the conventions in a piece of writing. For example; in the word ‘chocolate’ the ch is read as a ch sound (like the sound of a train) not as separate letters c h. Over the ch they would draw the symbol of a train. See thumbnail #2 for example or page 2 of Preview.
