Teachers are always looking for unique ways to teach important grammar concepts to a classroom full of students with different needs. Worksheets are outdated and do not meet Common Core, 21st Century learning standards. Skill and drill is ineffective because the concepts are easily forgotten. Students should show knowledge at a deeper level, and if they can teach the standards then we know they truly understand them.
Grammar Podcasts are an excellent way to differentiate grammar instruction, engage students, and make sure students have a complex understanding of the standards.
This Word document includes teacher directions, Common Core Standards covered (12 standards depending on the topic), a list of possible grammar topics, a rubric that scores student podcasts in the areas of Organization & Style/ Language Usage, student guideline questions, and an activity where students analyze a podcast from the Grammar Girl.
After students create the podcasts, they can use peer podcasts as a classroom resource that will be available the rest of the school year!
