With this document, you now have an essential handout for students. It seems that students often forget basic grammar knowledge or come to class having not been exposed to the grammar they need. This, naturally, causes problems when a teacher needs to advance through a grammar curriculum formulated with the CCCS in mind. For example, it is difficult to teach students noun clauses when they do not recall that nouns can function as subjects, direct objects, prepositional phrases, indirect objects, and predicate nominatives. In just a few pages, students can find an area of grammar that is causing him or her confusion.
In addition to all the information about the eight parts of speech, noun clauses, adjective clauses, et cetera, I have included the “Yankee Doodle” preposition song and two study aids for the twenty-three helping verbs, all in pursuit of differentiation.
