Remember the key to teaching grammar the Simple Steps way is to follow the steps in order. Do not move to the next step until you are absolutely sure your students have mastered the step on which they are working.
Also, remember to print the SAM sheets on the front and back of a single sheet of paper. Give each student a SAM sheet and allow him/her to use it on all exercises and tests.
After students have completed all the lessons in the book, they will be proficient in analyzing even the lengthiest compound-complex sentences. Students will be better writers because they will also have had practice in writing such sentences on their own.

If this is your first introduction to Simple Steps to Sentence Sense, be sure to take a look at the edition designed for high school students and adults. The lesson notes, lesson practice sheets, and projection sheets are exactly the same as in this middle school version of the book, but the group practice exercises, the individual practice exercises, the writing connection pages, and the tests are all different from those included in the middle school edition. In addition, the high school edition contains advanced steps to help students prepare for A.P. exams.
