This product is nine weeks worth of guided sentence activities to help your students with grammar and mechanics rules.
The idea behind guided sentences is starting with correctly written sentences to model grammar rules instead of starting with incorrect sentences and trying to fix them.
Each week has two formats that can be used.
The first is a poster style to be hung up in the room. For this format, students complete each day’s activity in a journal.
The second is a front and back handout with directions for each day and a space for students to record their answers.
Answer keys for each of the Thursday sentences to be corrected
A rubric for assessing students’ Friday sentences
I will statements for each of the skills
I hang these up as reminders for my students after we have covered the skill.
The rules included in these mentor sentences are the same rules included in the Weeks 1-9 pack with different sentences. The theory is that through repetition, students will achieve mastery of the skills. The included rules are:
-Capitalization the first word in a sentence and the word I
-Using a punctuation mark at the end of every sentence
-Capitalization of names and other proper nouns
-Capitalization of titles, languages, and countries (more proper nouns)
-Commas in a series
-Commas in a compound sentence
-Commas in between cities and states, in dates, and after transition words
-Capitalization of personal titles
