Grammar by the Month: April for 5th Grade is a set of worksheets that target specific 5th grade Common Core language standards, while including interesting historical or seasonal themes for the month of April.
Topics include capitals, punctuation, comma usage (for a series, to set off a word, and for an introductory element), interjections, Latin/Greek root vocabulary, expanding/combining/reducing sentences, spelling grade level words, idioms, similes and metaphors, multiple meaning words, context clues, synonyms and antonyms, prepositions and prepositional phrases, general academic words to signal compare and contrast, and verb tense shifts.
Specifically it includes:
Table of contents with standards and topics listed
1 student cover sheet (if you want to make it into a packet)
There are enough worksheets here to do three a week (maybe Monday, Wednesday, or Friday) for the entire month.
They can be used as morning work, as a review, to reinforce new lessons, in centers, for small groups, for one on one help, or even as homework.
Topics are interesting for kids and thematic for the month of April, which makes it much more fun than your average grammar practice pages. Another added benefit is that the language skills spiral, which means that your students will keep their skills fresh the whole year long!
