This resource is perfect for students to practice and apply all 5th grade Common Core language
skills in context. Students can use any independent reading text to complete these Grammar in
Context pages. Students can complete these pages for homework, center work, and
independent seat work. They can easily be used to assess students’ understanding of the
grammar skills being taught.
Each page is aligned to a different Common Core language standard for fifth grade. There
are explanations and examples on each page that students can refer to. Students will more
easily learn these standards when they see them applied to real literature.
I introduce each standard through a mentor text that I read and project onto my smart board.
I make sure that students notice how authors use each skill in their writing. Students use these
Grammar in Context sheets to practice these skills independently using books that are written
on their Lexile level. To keep track of each skill being taught, I have included a checklist for you to
record the dates that each skill is taught.
