This PDF contains the materials needed to help you set up a daily formative assessment for your students.
Each day, you will meet your students in the hallway before entering your room. You will have a deck of writing cards. Beginning at the top of the stack, you will ask your students one-by-one to provide either a definition or an example of the term on the card. If a student gets it right, they enter the room and the card goes to the bottom of the pile. If the student gets it wrong, you send the card with them to the back of the line. The student can check his/her notes or ask fellow classmates for the answer. The goal is to arrive at the answer prior to reaching the front of the line again. This process allows you to check in daily on what information your students are struggling with and what information they have mastered.
In this folder, you will find 31 basic grammar/writing term cards and a study chart for the students listing all the terms and definitions. The chart also has space to write down examples and notes as the terms are discussed in class.
