Reading Level: 650L Lexile (3rd Grade)

Please Note: This is not an long, in depth unit. The purpose of this resource is to 'guide students' through the reading of the book having them learn to ask and answer questions before reading, during reading and after reading as well as gaining insight by looking at the cover and art throughout the book. Students are also prompted through journal responses to begin developing the ability to ask questions about the book and story while they read as well as after they are finished. Story elements are not the focus of this resource. However, there are extended activities which will engage students with the story and connecting the plot to their own lives/experiences.
