Grandparents’/Special Day Activity Pack
Does your school have a Grandparents/Special Persons Day or do you want to implement your own? This pack has everything you need to do just that. Bonus, many activities can be used other times during the year, such as class parties, or small and large group activities focusing on math and language concepts.
Here is what is included and how to use the activities:
Grandparents’/Special Persons’ Day Social Story: This story helps prepare your little ones for what to expect on this day. Unfortunately, not everyone will have a grandparent or special person show up. This story lets your students know that a teacher can be a special person, too. Print on card stock,, laminate, and three ring hole bunch and use with metal rings or bind with a binding machine.
Object-Function Bingo: A fun game that can be played on grandparents’/special persons’ day and/or anytime through the year! The adults help the little ones fill out their BINGO cards. It is offered both in a color and a black and white version. Bonus, it’s a great language activity! For the color option, print on yardstick, laminate, and use with chips, Unifix cubes, paper clips, etc. to mark off the pictures or use with a dry erase marker and mark through the pictures named. The black and white option can be used with bingo dot markers, crayons, or markers.
M & M Candies Sorting and Graphing Mats: This activity can be done independently with student and adult together to offer some one on one time. It’s a great math activity, too. Encourage the adults to help with counting for some one to one correspondence! Print mats on card stock and laminate or slip into a plastic sleeve. The graphing option can be filled out with crayons or markers.
Wreath Craft Ideas: Our Grandparents’/Special Persons’ Day is in the fall, so my students make a fall wreath craft with the adult on that day. I share my wreath ideas with you, but it can be adapted to any time of the year.
I Love You to Pieces Craft: Students make this card ahead of time to present to their special person on the day of the event. Students tear and glue construction paper or tissue paper squares to decorate.
#1 Grandpa, #1 Grandma, or #1 Special Person Necklace/Medal: Students decorate with jewels, stickers, sequins, etc. String to make a necklace or add a construction paper ribbon to make it into a medal. Students can also paint a small paper plate gold and glue the badge on the paper plate to make it even fancier
All About You; A Very Special Person: Sheet that can be filled out with the help of the grandparent/special person the day of the event as another activity to do together.
Invitation to the Event With an RSVP: Fill out the information and print on colored paper to send home.
Volunteer Sheet: A note to send home asking for donations for cookies, drink, paper plates, napkins, cups, and an ‘other’ option to add anything else.
