This is a grant I submitted to a local foundation that I won. The total cost was $790 to buy a 1-year subscription to PebbleGo by Capstone. The have 3 different databases; Animal, Biography and Earth and Space. Since the Foundation Grants encourage sciene I asked for the Animal and Earth and Space. It turns out that Capstone will offer you a discount when you buy all three so I was able to use some additional funds to get the Biography one too.
I am the librarian at a K-2 school. The PebbleGo databases are specifically written for grades K-2 and your low level third grade readers. It uses a "multimodal literacy" to use text, voice, pictures and sound effects to teach to the various intelligences. Students can read the text themselves or click on the speaker button to have the text read to them (and the words are highlighted as the computer reads it). You can see a demo at
Once you purchase the database anyone in your school can use the log in information to access PebbleGo in their classroom. Kids can even get on it at home with their parents. My teachers have REALLY been enjoying it!
It is written in the format that the Foundation requested but can easily be adapted to your specific guidelines.Good luck writing your grant!
I have included on page 5 of this document an outline of the website. I did a short, 5 minute, teacher training on the website and gave them this outline. On page 6 of the document you will find the letter I sent home to parents telling them about the website and giving them our log in information. There are two letters printed on the page.
It was written in Microsoft Word 2003.
