Students will graph various linear, quadratic, and absolute value functions over a given domain onto a coordinate plane. The completed graphs will form a picture of a creature with wings. Students may add color and personality to their finished pictures if desired. This activity includes the 20 functions to graph and the coordinate plane on one page, and a solution key on another page. A calculator is not necessary to complete this activity if students are knowledgeable about the shapes of linear, quadratic, and absolute value functions. This activity also reinforces students' abilities to create tables of ordered pairs and to plot/connect the points from the tables to graph linear, quadratic, and absolute value functions.
As an extension to this activity, students could draw their own pictures and write the equations of the functions that create the pictures.
