This is a sheet I used for my classes at least twice a week. Students really do learn by duplicating other designer's work. They learn to recognize font sizes on sight, rule widths on sight, precise measuring and much more. Have a large supply of newspapers, local shopper magazines, and national magazines (ask other teachers for donations!) for students to cut ads out of.
Have students clip an ad to duplicate and paste/tape it on the drill blank. Students must match size, fonts, rule width, art, white space - everything to duplicate the ad as close as possible. Then they self-grade a printed copy of the duplicated ad and turn it in with the drill blank form.
