Graphic organizers make great tools for reading and note taking with informational text. Most students have trouble reading informational text with a purpose - graphic organizers help them find their purpose for reading. This lesson takes the teacher through the act of "re-teaching" graphic organizers in a more effective way than students are originally taught their use. Then, it allows the teacher to use a piece of informational text (of his/her choice - maybe from the textbook you are using in class or from the newspaper, etc.) to generate four questions (which this pack helps you generate) for your students to answer. The students, with their new knowledge, will choose the graphic organizer that will be effective for teaching that lesson, and proceed to answer the question with their group. After this lesson is completed once, students will be able to do this on their own.
