My middle school students have moved to reading music with expression markings aside from dynamics. For some of them, especially my ELLs, it was very overwhelming, and equally overwhelming for me to explain how they all worked.
In an attempt to foster more independence in my students to read music on their own more and more I've begun creating graphic organizers for them to use to help them recall and review their learning as they work on their music during independent practice.
This is the first of I hope many graphic organizers I will be making for my students and yours. The expression markings are by no means all of them, but the ones that kept coming up in music I was selecting for my students. Students have the symbol to the left and space to write the definition or how the symbol works.
