Description

Bring consistency and creativity into your ELA block with unique reading skill sheets that your students will love! These are creative graphic organizers that support important reading skills. This resource includes 6 skill sheets for each of 8 different targeted reading skills.

Skill sheets are consistent for each reading skill so get students comfortable with the different graphic organizer formats, this puts the focus on practicing the targeted reading skill. Students are asked to use their creativity, along with text evidence to show their understanding of each of the following reading skills:

Reading Skills Included

1. Question & Answer

2. Main Idea & Details

3. Cause & Effect

4. Sequencing Events

5. Author's Viewpoint (what does the author think/feel/believe)

6. Character's Viewpoint (what does the character think/feel/believe)
7. Compare & Contrast

8. Character Traits

Skill Sheets Included

-Text Messages: Students reinforce their understanding of the targeted reading skill by filling in text message bubbles. Students will have 3 opportunities to practice the skill on each Text Messages page. Once the graphic organizer is complete, students color the bubbles blue and green according to the directions on the specific page.

-Fill It Up: Students reinforce their understanding of the targeted reading skill by filling in large blank letters on the page that correspond with the skill (ex: “Q” and “A” for Question and Answer). This skill sheet allows students to get creative as they connect their responses with the same color. When completed, this page should be a colorful display of text-based knowledge!

-Trail Blazer: Students reinforce their understanding of the targeted reading skill by using text evidence to complete the path. Students will have 3 opportunities to practice the skill on each Trail Blazer page. Once the graphic organizer is complete, students are encouraged to add color and personalize their path.

-The Puzzler: Students reinforce their understanding of the targeted reading skill by using text evidence to fill in different puzzle pieces. Students will have 3 opportunities to practice the skill on each The Puzzler page. Once the graphic organizer is complete, students are encouraged to add color and personalize their puzzle.

-Reader's Wheel: Students reinforce their understanding of the targeted reading skill by using text evidence to fill in different pieces of a wheel. Students will have 3 opportunities to practice the skill on each Reader’s Wheel page. Once the graphic organizer is complete, students are encouraged to add color and personalize their wheel.

-Stripes: Students reinforce their understanding of the targeted reading skill by using text evidence to fill in stripes on a page. Students will have 3 opportunities to practice the skill on each Stripes page. Once the graphic organizer is complete, students are encouraged to add color and personalize the stripes.

These skill sheets can be used with fiction and nonfiction texts, books, passages, etc.! They are perfect for independent work, small group work, whole group and as a homework option.
