PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

File contains four graphic organizers and a table of contents that explains how I used them in conjunction with Monster by Walter Dean Myers. The first organizer asks students to identify the evidence used in the court case against Steve Harmon. Then, before reading the ending of the novel, students write their own closing arguments using the evidence from the text that they think will be the most convincing (the second graphic organizer helps them plan their draft). I had my students read their arguments to the class, and at the end, the class voted on a verdict. Finally, the last two graphic organizers ask students to identify the points made by the lawyers in the book during their own closing arguments. Students can compare the points they chose to use with the points made in the book.
