Purpose: To help students critically analyze, process, and understand or comprehend information read.
Uses: For any reading texts, such as in the subjects of reading, social studies/history, and science.
How to Use: In the beginning, the teacher models selecting, copying, and filling out a graphic organizer after reading a text. When able to, students do the same independently or cooperatively with others.
How to Copy Organizers: Using regular notebook paper, draw a horizontal line at center hole punch to create 2 sections for 2 graphic organizers. Or, count 3 sections of 8 or 9 lines each to create 3 sections for 3 graphic organizers. Or, draw one vertical line at center of paper and one horizontal line at center hole punch to create 4 sections for 4 graphic organizers.
Note: Show students to draw only necessary lines, not all lines, so as to preserve time. Also, each student should be given a copy of the graphic organizers to copy from onto their notebook paper to fill out.
