This product contains 13 different graphic organizers designed to help students take notes. There are 13 posters of the graphic organizers that can be displayed in the classroom and 16 different graphic organizers designed for students to use when taking notes. This product was created to provide support to students involved in taking notes for project based learning. Teaching students how to take notes and what content is important can be challenging. This product offers some support as a way for students to organize their thoughts. It can easily be incorporated into social studies, science, health, and reading instruction. I recommend discussing as a class why particular graphic organizers work well with specific books. For example, if you're reading The Life Cycle of a Frog, the sequencing graphic organizer would work well for taking notes. If you're reading a book titled, Whales and Dolphins the compare and contrast graphic organizer would work best. There is also an interviewing graphic organizer that could be used when your class has guest speakers or to take with them on a field trip. It can be adapted for use in any K-5 classroom.

Kindergarten/First Grade: Model using the graphic organizers during whole group instruction, shared reading, or interactive writing. Some students in first grade could use the graphic organizers during small group instruction.
2nd/3rd Grade: I recommend modeling how to use the graphic organizers during whole group instruction. Follow up by using the graphic organizers during small group instruction, using them during small group reading works very well. Students should be able to use these organizers during small group, with partners, and eventually on their own while completing research projects. They can also be used during as a choice during independent reading time to keep students accountable for their reading.
4th/5th Grade: I recommend following the procedures listed for 2nd and 3rd grade, however students will be able to use the graphic organizers independently at a faster rate.
