If you have been looking for a graphic organizer pack that is not just useful in getting your students started using graphic organizers but will also be useful throughout the year, then look no further!
This pack includes graphic organizers that can be used for any fiction or non fiction reading that your students are doing. I use this lesson and these organizers in my own classroom all year long and I have seen first hand the benefits to my students' reading.
Included in this pack:
Muskets v. arrows non fiction article
H-Chart (compare and contrast)
Cause and Effect chart
Using the Muskets v. arrows article is a great way to introduce graphic organizers to your students. In my classroom, I introduce this article to my students in a way that makes them really excited! I tell them that by the end of the week they will be choosing a weapon for battle but they will have to provide support using the information that they have put into their graphic organizers. We read the article daily, focusing on one organizer each day. I show them how to fill out each organizer and we begin it together, then they are tasked with filling out the rest on their own or with a partner. By the end of the week, we have completed 4 or 5 organizers and they are ready to make their choices and provide meaningful, fact based evidence!
