In college, my professors always told me not to “reinvent the wheel.” If another teacher has already created the document you’re looking for, and they’ve posted it online, use it! In my professional life, I’ve taken those words to heart. I’ve also made it a point to support other educators by purchasing their original items. Over the years, I have realized, however, that the selection of graphic organizers geared toward secondary social studies is hit or miss, at best.
This collection of graphic organizers has been compiled over years of classroom use both at the middle and high school level. All of the included organizers are original, though some may have been inspired by similar organizers created for the English/Language Arts classroom.
Many students excel through the use of visual representations of information, especially in today’s technology-dependent world. It is my hope that the organizers included here can supplement the work that you are doing every day in your social studies classroom.
