In this assignment, students are challenged to find a poem (or a song) with highly descriptive images to re-create graphically. Students interpret the poem of their chosing, line by line, and then choose corresponding images and graphics to share the poem's message visually. This is a great literacy activity, encouraging students to develop connections between written and visual texts. After re-creating their poem, students use metacognition and self-assessment strategies to evaluate their choices in a few written paragraphs. This assignment comes complete with instructions, visual examples for students, and a marking scheme. A highly creative, enjoyable, and worthy activity for any English classroom.
