It is important for students to know the value of using graphic sources while reading informational texts. Unfortunately, many students bypass graphic sources during reading, but research shows that many standardized test answers can be found by using a graphic source attached to the article being read. This Smartboard lesson can be used to show students the different types of graphic sources. I have students take notes of these in interactive notebooks. For classwork or homework, they can then attach and find pictures of each type to go along with their notes.
