I created this end of year newspaper scavenger hunt on graphic sources and text features for my students to work in cooperative groups to complete, during reading at the end of the year. This is a great group activity for students to engage in during the hustle and bustle of trying to close up your classroom for the summer.
Students work in groups to locate items on the scavenger hunt check list. My groups consist of 4-5 students each. Each group will need a copy of the newspaper and a poster board or a piece of bulletin board paper. Please note each group does not need to have the same edition of the newspaper. There is a rubric for students to use to create their posters.
This activity usually takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete. Students then share in groups what items they have found. A bonus... I use their completed projects to cover my boards for the summer.
